This is the depiction of Sir Christopher Wren's Temple Bar, built after the Great Fire of 1666. It spanned the Strand on the North side of the Middle Temple. Today the spot is marked by a monument in the center of the road surmounted by a griffin very like the beast on each corner of Wren's structure. The modern griffin is depicted above the photograph of the Temple Bar. The depiction of the Temple Bar shown here is the bronze plaque on the East side of the modern monument.
