THE RED LION WAS LOCATED "IN THE PARISH OF ST. MARY MATFELLON, WHITECHAPEL, EVIDENTLY AT THE SOUTHEASTERN END OF THE PARISH, PERHAPS 175 YARDS SOUTH OF WHITECHAPEL ROAD, ON THE NORTH-WEST CORNER OF STEPNEY WAY AND HALCROW STREET, E.1"

[ed. note] Halcrow Street does not run as far north as Stepney Way, ending as it does at Newark Street a block to the south of Stepney Way. The authors surely intend to suggest that the playhouse was located at the northwest corner of the imagined intersection of Halcrow and Stepney.
